Also this year we invited our customers and interested participants to our FACTON conference. This time we expected some innovations from our customers and ourselves. With the new name "Cost Smarter - the Conference for Enterprise Product Costing" we brought the user conference from Stuttgart back to Potsdam. The date of the event, 12 December, was well behind the usual date in November.
First, I can say: We are happy, because the new concept worked. And perhaps it was precisely these innovations that led to the fact that more participants than ever before sought their way to us.
Eve of the conference: welcome to our new office
The twelfth edition of the user conference was a special one for us. A year ago, we moved into new offices at the Lake Campus Jungfernsee in Potsdam. For the first time we have our own event floor that gives us the opportunity to host larger events. The get-together on the evening before Cost Smarter was a new and great experience. We were able to show our customers and guests the location where a part of the FACTON EPC Suite is being created. We were pleased to spend a successful evening together with our guests in a relaxed atmosphere.
Cost Smarter – A day with lectures, product presentations and best practices
On December 12th – punctually at 9:00 am – our CEO Alexander M. Swoboda opened Cost Smarter with an update on the FACTON year 2019 and a keynote speech on "Why ACES Impacts the Profitability of Every Industry". Afterwards I had the opportunity to explain why companies and their customer and business relationships benefit from the EPC solutions, the ecosystem around the EPC platform and activities like Cost Smarter.
The second part of the day’s programme continued in three thematic clusters. The first track "Global Trends in EPC" picked up on the trend topics of electronic costing, new mobility solutions and the digitization of cost management. Romain Fraux, CEO System Plus Consulting, spoke about the challenges and the practical implementation of electronic costing. Torsten Lach from Innogy explained in his presentation "Future Mobility" that the approach for new mobility solutions can only be successfully pursued if the industry architectures change and new opportunities for cooperation arise. Hendrik Preis from ORBIS discussed the advantages of digitization. He presented a cloud-based application that supports the collaborative sales process with consistent pricing data.
In the second track, our product management team presented the latest EPC solutions. The Company WEBER-Hydraulik delivered a user report on how the use of FACTON EPC Cost Model Designer contributes to value creation in the company. FACTON itself presented its software solution for the simulation of product costs, the EPC Business Case Simulator. In the preview of the EPC Cost Controlling, which will be published in spring 2020, the team demonstrated the advantages of collaborative cost accounting.
The third track focused on the exchange of experience and information on EPC solutions. The team from Professional Services showed best practices for the use of the costing software in the departments of Purchasing, Sales and Development. The participants learned how costing processes can be optimally organized and which features are available in the solutions.
The topic "The future of mobility" was again addressed by our closing speaker Dr. Hans-Peter Kleebinder in his lecture "SMART Mobility Manifesto 2030: Zero Emissions. Zero Accidents. Zero Ownership". The conclusion of his lecture: With zero emissions, zero accidents and zero ownership, society will live healthier, safer and more relaxed. In this context, more mobility solutions will emerge and new services, new platforms and new ECOSystems will develop in parallel. Alexander M. Swoboda concluded the official part of the conference.
Cost Smarter is characterized by the personal exchange
The conference has a multifaceted program – but the added value lies in the exchange of ideas within the FACTON community. We are convinced that the participants of a professional conference on a top topic such as product cost management will benefit from networking and personal discussions. That's why we plan sufficient breaks and time for personal discussions. We invite our partners to present their solutions in lectures and at information booths. Our customers can discuss requirements for EPC solutions with the product management team. Why do we create these opportunities? Only in direct exchange with our customers and partners can we successfully shape the future of our EPC platform and costing solutions for the benefit of the users.
One evening and one day - Many thanks to our guests!
A final word: THANK YOU.
We thank all participants who made the first Cost Smarter conference so insightful, exciting and entertaining. It was an amazing day for us: we went home satisfied with many impressions. In the new year we take up the thread again and start the planning of Cost Smarter 2020. The conference for Enterprise Product Costing will take place on December 3, 2020 including the evening event in Potsdam.
